I downloaded the 14 day trial of CrossOver Mac (13.1.2) and am trying to install Quicken WillMaker Plus 2013. It's not known to CrossOver Mac but it prompts me with 'In order to install Quicken WillMaker Plus you must first install these components:' Windows Installer 3.1 (Installed), Microsoft.NET Framework 2.0 SP1 (x86), qwpinstaller.msi. When I click 'Install' it gives me an error 'Error extracting 'SETUP1.CAB': The file is not a cabinet.

Any ideas on how I can get this to work? Thanks, -Paul. Yup, you should start by installing.Net via Crossover in the bottle. Installing.Net via some other software's installer will probably fail miserably in most circumstances.

If you install via Crossover, it has a few tricks to get the installation to work. The.Net libraries will be in the 'runtime support components'. Willmaker is easy to use, way more complete than the last time we used Willmaker back 15 years ago. I have heard some people worry that you need to see a lawyer for a will, but having just saved $700 by doing it ourselves, it strikes me that we got the bases covered adequately, and I'm not feeling worried about whatever they got, that we might be missing. After checking the Better Business Bureau for some of the online will-creation software, I saw plenty of complaints about recurring credit card charges that people had difficulty stopping, and other services that I couldn't locate in BBB at all.

If you plan to use an online service, I encourage you to check it out at the BBB first. That's what caused me to beat a hasty retreat to use WillMaker. I stake a lot in the fact that Intuit / Quicken care a lot more about their brand, than they do trying to hit me for a few overcharges or inappropriately using any private information that I may provide. We later discovered that it would be better for her estate if we created a living trust, so I created an account on Nola and use the free online living trust. It was very easy to create a simple living trust. I only have 2 things that I would change. You can only create 1 living trust with the online version, and it would be nice if it included some of the other necessary forms such as a quitclaim deed form. The older version included the living trust software, so you could create as many as you needed.

The software made it easy to prepare simple wills, advanced care directives, and Power of Attorney for my husband and me. The only problem we had was finding someone to notarize the documents. The Bank wouldn't do it and an attorney won't do it so we had to go to the Records department at our local County offices for notary.
